Forest in the Community head to Ghana

Amy White of Nottingham Forest Ladies FC is raising money for a community project in Ghana. Here she tells you how you can help...

Nottingham Forest in the Community in Ghana

In June I will be travelling to Ghana alongside 11 other volunteers as part of a partnership project with Nottingham Forest in the Community and African Adventures. We will be going to a small village called Woe, which is situated in the Volta region of Ghana, to work on community projects, coach football and help out at the local school.

Football has always been a true passion of mine. I kicked my first ball at six and first donned the mighty Reds’ jersey for Forest Ladies aged eight. I haven’t looked back since and have fallen more in love with the beautiful game as the years have passed.

I have been fortunate enough to have travelled the world because of football, working and playing across the globe. Coaching in Africa has always been at the top of my ‘to do’ list because although many children and families have so little out there, they are grateful for everything they do have. This is really inspiring to me and I just want to get out there and use the power of football to help inspire them while, on a personal level, learning about a truly fascinating culture and way of living.

They have so little equipment out there, so our team are trying to gather as many footballs, boots, sports equipment and school equipment as possible so we can help to provide them with better resources.

My colleague Jamie Brown and I will be coaching the children with a number of other volunteers. Some may have never had the opportunity to kick a real football, so I can’t wait to get involved.

On a personal level, I sustained a second knee injury that has taken me out of the game for the last six months. Rehab had been going well but when I was offered this opportunity by work I felt like it had given me extra motivation to get fit. It also made me realise, although I can’t play at the moment, I have so much to be grateful for and I have the ability to help those less fortunate then myself.

I have raised £1,000 already but need help to raise another £1,000 to make this dream a reality.

Please help get me to Ghana - every penny really counts!
