Football Keeps You Fit

15 September 2016

There’s never been a better time to get active in Nottingham…

Nottingham is right in the heart of the football revolution. Both Notts County

and Nottingham Forest have been inducted into the National Football

Museum Hall of Fame. But how do we work towards continuing this success?

It’s vital that people in Nottingham continue to play football from a young age.

But you don’t have to be young if you’ve never played before - we want

people to play football no matter what.

There’s always something to get involved with at City of Football, no matter

what your age or ability. We want you all to play because of the incredible

health benefits football can produce.

Football pitches are large areas, facilitating a great deal of running. On

average, a player can run up to seven miles in one match, which greatly

improves endurance and stamina.

This constant movement is amazing for your cardiovascular fitness – it

increases the ability of your heart to pump blood to your muscles, clears the

build-up of plaque in your arteries, and means you will have a slower resting

heart rate.

This is also relevant as a crossover for other types of fitness, as there are a

wide variety of actions performed in football. You’ll find yourself walking,

jogging, sprinting, jumping, sliding, dribbling, turning and passing, all in one

game.

These moves have a positive impact on your general level of coordination as

well. Complex movements get your brain working and repeating them often

leads to muscle memory and successful exploits.

The fact that your body is constantly holding up your own weight also leads to

an increase in the overall strength of your skeletal frame, enabling the

development of desirable muscle tone.

Additionally, there is a lot to be said regarding the benefits of teamwork that

can originate on a football field. Sometimes it’s hard to solve a problem by

yourself, but being involved in a team can teach people to think in broader

than just themselves.

And of course, there’s the plain and simple fact that it beats running on a

treadmill like a hamster. It gets you out and about, breathing in some fresh air.

At City of Football we are always finding new and creative ways to get people

involved in football. Don’t miss out!
